Apr. 18th, 2003 11:22 pmI don't really keep up with MTV, and as consequence had not seen any of this 'Jackass' show until tonight. I was killing a little time and put it on. They had an Oompa Loompa riding a skateboard around, which while not something I particularly cared to see, did hold my attention. I mean what the hell, what did I do to deserve such a sight? Those Oompa Loompas are scary little fuckers and the thought of one with such mobility is terrifying. Then Johnny Knoxville put on some sort of fake erection prosthetic and walked around sporting faux wood. He kept getting up close to people with his apparent hard on. I couldn't stop laughing. I had no idea that I would find a pretend stiffy so hilarious. The things you can still learn about yourself, even at my age.
I guess this show doesn't accept submissions - I learned this in reading an article earlier about some kid who set himself on fire after watching 'Jackass: the movie'. I can see where people would think that it does, watching it here... it looks a lot like people have submitted tapes of their own grand achievements. But, you know, I am not saying that anyone is being encouraged to self destructive behavior or anything. Quite a ways from worrying that Beavis and Butt-Head were bad role models that would incite lawsuits against MTV though. Geez.
Then 'The Osbournes' came on. I dunno, I feel like it was funny watching Ozzy scramble some eggs and mumble on 'The Decline of Western Civilization Part II' years back and that was that and there was no call for some series. I can't watch this thing.
I recorded a bunch of clips for our call demo today at work. I am starting to dread that part of the job, recording the voice prompts, because the results are so unsatisfactory. I am not sure how to make the clips better, I hope if I keep working at it I will get there. Dave came in for about a half day today, and Sanjiv stayed home. I do feel like we made some good progress at work this week, and I am more optimistic about our chances for some success, which makes me happier in general. I do think that we are building a pretty cool system, although it is not in my nature to show a lot of enthusiasm for anything with the possible exception of dessert.
I left the office around 3. I decided I would run by Wangman's and get some groceries for the weekend, thinking the grocery store wouldn't be too crowded on a Friday afternoon. Oh was I wrong. I don't want to say it was hell on earth, but it was one of those shopping occasions where there is always someone in your way, and you are always in someone else's way, and there is little patience in evidence anywhere. Some consequence of the holiday weekend I guess.
After I got back from the grocery store I wound up taking a nap. There are a couple of errands that I need to run tomorrow, so I hope I don't just do a bunch of sleeping this weekend. Sometimes I get even lazier than usual and it works out that way.
