Macintosh OSX tech support request

Any recommendations of a simple, free image editor available for Mac OSX that can be used to easily create LJ icons and the like...? I think I asked this before; sorry. I used to use IrfanView (or something like that) on Windows... it was free and very easily let me crop and resize an image to make cramped, puzzling icons out of other people's beautiful artwork. Making lame little icons seems to me like a Mac 'thing' but I have been out of the Mac loop for like 10 years now and am still getting back up to speed on how things are done these days. Maybe I should just search for a tutorial online somewhere and leave you the hell out of my damn problems.

man i need this too. i have a mac at work and i like it fine but why doesn't it have any image editing software? or it seems like iphoto should be able to do this.

I need to look for a tutorial online I think. There has to be some easy way. Or so I keep telling myself.

I would suggest using to illegally download Photoshop or Fireworks MX. They both have a crop feature (along with hundreds of others) that can be used fairly easily. Re-sizing the images is also very easy. (http://www.limewire.com)

Hmmm maybe I should wade back into the illegal downloads. I have fallen behind the times on that stuff, not out of any virtue but just due to a lack of need I think.
