I've always liked Petra in Jordan - but isn't part of being a 7 wonders of the world that one does not know how it was built? A lot of stuff on that list it's pretty obvious how and by whom it was built.
I am intrigued by Petra also... back in the mid-90s I got it into my head that I really wanted to visit it. My friend Jay and I decided we would go see the pyramids in Egypt for the 'millennium', and see Petra also. In 1996 this seemed like something we could pull off at the end of '99, but it did not happen. I'd still really like to see Petra someday!
Hmmm I didn't think the origins of the thing being hazy was part of being a wonder but maybe it is. I can't remember what the original seven were... most are gone now though right? The Colossus of Rhodes, the Hanging Gardens, the Library at Alexandria... hrmmm I can't remember the others.

have to say I don't approve of lists that co-mingle man-made and natural 'wonders'
