When I was visiting Chicago, I wound up hanging out at a Cub Scout meeting. I mostly read during it, but I did hear this one older kid make a general announcement that people should drive by his house to see the cool Halloween display. It was nearby so I got curious and drove by. Holy shit these people went crazy. Pictures below. Note that several of the figures were animated.

That kind of frightens me to look at and I'm an adult. If that were on my block when I was a child I would never have left my house again.

That's awesome! There was a house kinda like that around the corner from where we live, and the guy who lived there was chasing us and everyone else around with a chainsaw on halloween night. It was the most fun house in Crowley.

Sweet Maria! We used to have a family here that went wild and put up like 30 corny gravestones every October, and we thought THAT was extreme, but that house is MADNESS! I wonder what it looks like at Christmas?

My first thought was, "how much did it cost to buy all that stuff???"
Second thought was that when I was really little that house would've scared the hell out of me.

There's a house about a mile away that put up a grim reaper outside their house that was at least 15 feet tall and made of some sort of black, gauzy material and metal. It was AMAZING. I wish I'd gone to take a picture of it befoer they took it down because it wasn't just cool Halloween stuff, it was really artistic. I can't adequately describe it with words, unfortunately.

The American flag, displayed among all the gruesome figures. It added just the right "What the HELL!?" touch to the tableaux.
