Aug. 24th, 2002 02:37 pmWow it's actually wet and overcast here in Lawrenceville today. I think this may be the first day I have seen quite like this in the nearly two months since I moved. I kind of like it, except that it's on the humid side... there are lots of gray days such as this one in southwestern Ohio, where I grew up, so this feels sort of normal and comfortable to me, rather than being "gloomy". And hooray for the rain, let me tell you. Droughts are double plus ungood.
Yesterday was one of my favorite days at the new job thus far. I was doing this and that miscellaneous task in the morning, like some stuff related to getting insurance for us, then Mike declared we would have a design session. The design session was good... I felt like I was engaged and keeping up... for the most part anyway... a little concerned (me being so insecure) that I might've seemed dim, clumsy or slow to Sanjiv... and maybe I was I dunno. But I enjoyed thinking things through and talking them out. Man we have sooo much to do, this is a huge task and so complex. Mike clarified some things that make me think it will be slightly easier to get this to work than I had been envisioning... but also, that seem to take away some of the advantages of his system. So, we'll see. Hopefully we can get this thing built.
Sanjiv had to leave at 4, and Mike declared he would leave then too, so I wound up going home not long after that. Well... actually I went to Best Buy and picked up a couple items, and then I went home. Thus last night I watched Amelie finally. I liked it... girl-movie I guess but it was very playful and fun, and made me happy. I had wanted to see it in a theater back in Chicago but friend Kim didn't want to go since she had heard it was a "feel good" movie and she is not into that sort of thing. Feeling good that is. Too bad I think we would've enjoyed it, and I think it would've been enhanced by watching in a group setting like a theater.
A bit of a restless night last night. Some guys were talking somewhere outside... I never figured out where they were but I could hear them on and off til 4:30 a.m. I had seen a bunch of, well not to resort to stereotyping too much but, kinda frattish looking characters going in and out of one of my neighbor's apartments earlier in the evening. I am assuming the party, or part of it anyway, wound up outside around 2:30 and that was what I kept hearing. Occasionally they would get loud enough to jolt me awake, I would think a few unkind thoughts and then drift back off. After one such waking I got up to pee and looked out the window but couldn't tell where they were. Oh well. Pretty exciting night huh? Oh yes.
This morning I had to drive back to the Toyota dealership to pick up my license plates. I was a little nervous about this since the streets around the dealership seemed kinda curvy, loopy, and generally confusing to me. But, I used the nav system like a regular Mike and all went smooth as could be. I listened to Katy Lied there and back and had a fine time. I need to start figuring out what kind of jaunts I might be able to make around here... I know I want to go visit my friend-cluster that lives near D.C.
Going back to Chicago the weekend of September 21st for Shawn's bachelor party weekend. Should be a lot of fun. Man that guy is going to go through hell for a few days there, but not at my hands. I'll just be watching and laughing.
Gonna watch another Best Buy purchase (extravagance is my name) here shortly, the new DVD edition of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I love the original series way more than any of the movies, or any of the assorted pretenders to the throne, but this movie certainly has its moments, and friend Jay was encouraging me to check out this edition of it. Of course for my money nothing will beat watching it on an IMAX screen as we did a few years back... you just can't top a 12 story tall William Shatner head howling "KHAAAAAN!" Nor should you ever try. Ever!
Hmmm I absolutely must go for a walk later today. Maybe I can remember how to get to a park that Mike and I took his kids to awhile back. That would be fun.
