So, Tuesday, this California governor recall election. I've got $1 riding on this thing, if you live in California and that sways your vote at all. I bet that Davis wouldn't be recalled, but I was just basing that on the idea that people would be wary of change, especially a radical change, when it came right down to it. I don't really know the politics out there, I just work with a mouthy guy who likes to goad people into making bets with him.
I ordered those Ren and Stimpy DVDs from Time-Life and watched them over the weekend. Man, it had been awhile since I had seen these cartoons. I could sort of remember roughly what a particular cartoon was about, but often didn't know how it ended... yet as I watched the cartoon, even if I couldn't recall the outcome, I would remember 'the next line', constantly. We just used to quote this shit so much back when I worked at Electronic Edge, in '91 and '92. It was all Ren and Stimpy all the time in those days. I still probably blurt some lines from it nowadays, without even thinking about where they came from. Some of the cartoons looked better than others... I don't know, maybe some of the stuff always looked a little worn, by design or something... the 'Log' commercials had some vertical lines showing - I don't really know the proper term for them, but they didn't look clean. Sven Hoek on the other hand looked crystal clear. Anyway I'm pretty sure these discs include all of the episodes that I remember from Ren and Stimpy on Nickelodeon, and a couple that I'm not sure I ever saw. I kind of wish they had been grouped in the order that they were originally broadcast, but that's just me being anal I think... it was fun just to watch them.
The rough stuff: Still haven't received the comics that I ordered from
shiga. Probably the $22 I sent wasn't well-concealed enough. Drat. Also still waiting on the issues of NON (1-4) that I bought; I'm worried that they're lost in the mail. Wah. Speaking of NON, someone is auctioning off a signed copy of no. 5, plus 1 and 2. Nice.
I saw that Nintendo is selling the GameCube for $100 now. Sometimes I feel like I am missing out by not having one or another gaming console. I was kind of tempted to buy one of these but couldn't quite talk myself into it. I always like to know what's going on in the video game world but am not really much of a gamer, myself.

man that's a great icon

I saw a blurb on a web page over the weekend that made it sound like Viacom is going to release sets of Ren & Stimpy DVDs eventually, as well. That might wind up being the preferable package, but I don't know when they'll come out. It was just something I read on a fan page, www.ren-stimpy.com.
Maybe I'll email Jason Shiga and ask if he ever got my money. Maybe he is just slow or forgot, or maybe he couldn't read my writing. I stupidly forgot to include my email address with the money, duh.
