This is where I come to cry

This Alabama judge and his Ten Commandments monument... what the hell. I first heard some blurb about this on the radio a week or so ago, and at the time I just figured it was some atheist-activist types making an issue of some old mural or the like. I was imagining something 80 years old that no one even paid attention to in the courthouse, just part of the scenery, now being challenged. Now that I have read more about it this judge character strikes me as some grandstanding panderer who's unclear on the concept. Fox News had a little profile on him here. I don't think I would want to wind up in his courtroom for anything (well, assuming the Alabama Chief Justice would have a 'courtroom' of his own... anyway he's suspended now). I am a little alarmed that so far the various online polls I have seen on whether the monument should stay or go all seem to be coming up 'stay'. I know we're already stuck with that 'one nation under god' language forever, and I hate to get all Madalyn Murray O'Hair, but sticking some religion's tenets up in a public building seems inappropriate to me, and a disservice to both church and state.

I felt sick and draggy all day today. Why, why? I got home around 6 and had no appetite and went to bed for some restless slumber. Now it's the middle of the night and I'm wide awake and all melancholy.

Still not getting any of that 'Sobig.f' email - which is really good, so I'm not complaining. I guess either my email addresses aren't in many address books, or are only in address books of careful people. And they aren't really on any web pages anywhere. Hooray.

Some stories from the Daily Grail: giant gerbil explosion in China, Russians preparing to violate mysterious Lake Vostok.

crazy news stories. i never knew about that lake. rad. i keep getting about 50 sobigs every time i open my mailbox. and i think i'm not getting more than that just because there's no room. i can send you some if you want.

Yikes! No thanks, I'll pass on the sobigs. That really sucks that you are getting so many that your mailbox is filling up. Man.

Lake Vostok seems pretty intriguing to me. Of course I imagine it as something like the underground lake in Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and probably miss the reasons that it is interesting 'science'.

that's the exact reason it's interesting to science! okay, i haven't read that jules verne but i'm sure the reasons you and i are both imagining how cool it is are the same reason that scientists think so, too. hope they don't mess it up.
