There is supposed to be some apocalypse of snow headed my way. The end times blizzard. I sleep til noon and then look outside and there is no new snow. I fondle the laptop and check out the usual suspects and see headlines foretelling cold, wet doom. The "white death". The river will freeze, and the wolves will come across. Still, no snow yet. I called my friends in New Town and they said come on down. Supposedly the snow will be gradual. Mother Nature is just playing with us. Perhaps a slow, nerve-wracking end. 22 inches, settling in over hours. Plenty of time for reflecting on your sins, and a cool-headed evaluation of which cabin mate you should eat first.

Meanwhile, this Den Beste character about has me believing that a military effort to dislodge Saddam Hussein won't be the grim horrorshow that I dread. Check out some of his analysis here. Pretty interesting stuff.

And the instapundit man supplies this link, which tells us of various deals Iraq has cut with countries that are now sympathetic to the Hussein crowd keeping power. Eh, well shit, of course you'd barter oil to save your skin, right? It is a worthwhile addition to the "it's all about oil" lens of consideration though, I would say.

Oh and somewhere I came across this article from Time Magazine that will keep you nicely on edge regarding domestic terrorism, homeland security, and all your lovely rolls of duct tape. Despite being one of the most paranoid and fear-driven individuals in all of recorded history, somehow I have dodged this latest wave of anxiety. Not sure why I have been spared. I am usually a little behind the times though. Smallpox is just like chicken pox right? Which I already had.

But I can't get enough Lucky Ducky.

Ahhh I need to shower and get ready for my (hopefully non white knuckle) ride to New Town. I do like these folks, and appreciate their invitation and look forward to seeing them; I just am keenly aware of how dumpy and shifty I am, and very asocial as a result. Sounds fun right? It is. I am. You don't know what you're missing, folks. As for me, I think I will miss the Simpsons' 300th episode tonight as a result of this going out business, but that's OK.

PS - for anyone still sulking about Valentine's Day, Andrew Sullivan's fine cranky broadside vs. romantic love is available here for your consideration and commiseration.

Maybe we could make a deal with Iraq: We give them our snow and they can give us Saddam's head on a stick.
Sounds fair to me!

Now that more attention is being paid to France's oil contracts with Iraq, I wonder if we'll start seeing "No Peace for Oil" signs in protest marches?

Ha ha! Oil, the root of all... um, the root of all.

Someone on my Friends list posted a link to this protest image (http://www.babyhans.com/hollywood_1/pages/218-1892_IMG_jpg.htm), which cracks me up.
