my vice, 2009
Dec. 26th, 2008 11:30 amWhile I did manage to dial way back on my book-buying in 2008, coveting pricey comic book books seems to remain my foremost vice (apart from eating). I compiled a list of my current hot items for 2009, below, while listening to podcasts and chatting with folks online. I don't know if I'll be able to afford all these... find time to read them... have a place to store them. But I think they all look like good stuff. Kind of interesting to me that nearly all I seem to care about these days are reprints (although I am looking forward to projects like Crumb's Book of Genesis adaptation and Chester Brown's book about his experiences with paying for sex).
So anyway I'll be able to look back on this list a year from now and who knows what terrible judgment I'll pass on myself then. It's really kind of embarrassing to lay all this out; possibly I'll shame myself into cutting back some. Or more likely reality will impose cutbacks upon me, the way things seem to be going in the world. It's OK.
Oh and actually around six of these are items I'd also want as gifts for others.

most excited about: the Captain Easy book
gift items: Johnny Boo, all the John Stanley books, Moomin, Popeye ... I covet a copy of Popeye for myself as well for sure
p.s. - I realized later 'my obsession' would work as well as 'my vice' as a description here! Eep.
