LOST "The Shape of Things to Come"
Apr. 26th, 2008 10:05 amI have been really busy at work this week so I am behind on the LJ and all things online. But I did watch LOST last night and had some words about it.
Wow! This was a "boy" episode for the most part, no romance and lots of explosions. And I would say "lots of gunplay" but one of my beefs with the show is they have a LOT of gunplay, or at least, guns are a big damn deal on that island, always being found, brandished, pointed.
I thought it was a pretty great episode though. Some new information that led to more questions and mysteries, yet it felt like a little progress. So Charles Widmore (sp?), it is "his" island. How old is he? Does that mean Dharma was "his"? (or did we know that...?) And if so why do they keep dropping supplies if Charles can't find the island? Or is the plane dropping supplies sometime in the 1970s but they land in the 'oughts?
Ben in the Sahara, then meeting Sayid... had to happen after Sayid gets off the island, right? But a thing I saw someone question online: when Ben goes into his secret chamber, is he summoning the smoke monster, or is he traveling in time and space and doing his dirty business in the Sahara, Iraq, London, et al, right then and there after Alex is shot? I didn't notice, did he still look the same when he came out of the room? Perhaps using time travel like that antagonizes and summons the smoke monster, but if so, how did Ben know it would go after the mercenaries and not him? He did seem to imply it would destroy the house, didn't he, by telling Locke et al they'd soon have to run for the trees...?
Then, "He changed the rules", Ben after Alex was killed. Was "he" Widmore, or Jacob, or...? Ben said he could not kill Widmore. I found myself thinking maybe that means Jacob won't talk to murderers but he has some weird thing where he won't talk to people who kill directly, but it's OK if they get say Sayid to do it. And that maybe was why Ben tried to goad Locke into killing Locke's father. But then I recalled, Ben killed his own father with nerve gas. So, I dunno.
I was surprised Alex was killed. I think the Ben declaration he would kill Penelope sets up a lot for future shows. Watching last night at times I had to keep reminding myself, "Ben is crazy and evil. He is not the hero. Do not root for the bug-eyed man." But still it was hard not to enjoy his secret agent type antics.
Otherwise, things are OK I guess. I have to go work for some hours today. I was supposed to go see Shawn and his people this weekend but I begged off at the last minute, which honestly I really didn't want to do. Yeah sure I am no fan of the driving it takes to get there and back, but I value the friendship there and don't want to neglect it or take it for granted. It just came down to I really want to get some work done today, things I feel like I have to do for this new project that's been declared critical. So I am going to head into the office for awhile now.
