Kaiju Big Battel. I may need to get in on some of this.

RetroCrush breaks down the 100 scariest movie scenes of all time for you. I keep hearing about that scene from Exorcist III, and even rented it once to see for myself, but wound up falling asleep before I saw it.

Freaky anti GM organism billboards in New Zealand. But short of GM, the FDA says human growth hormones for all! No more short people?

Tony Parson in the Daily Mirror says Halloween works in America, but not in the U.K., because in America we got guns.

The ancient and surprisingly intriguing mystery of the labyrinth.

"To understand history and current events, you often need data not taught in schools": Bush, Soybeans, Treason & Bunk America. Um. OK.

Based on the evidence of my last entry, The Gender Genie declares me to be a male.

descend now into this force field...

[personal profile] gooddreams sent me this CD she concocted that featured some recordings of Elizabeth Clare Prophet. I had been forewarned that Mrs. Prophet's unique stylings were sort of indescribably bizarre, and would likely be unlike anything I'd heard before. I thought yeah, yeah, sure... it is going to be some crazy fundamentalist fire and brimstone ranting... I used to listen to the Patriot Network on the radio when I lived in Colorado, and I've seen John Jacobs and the Power Team perform live. I imagined that Elizabeth Clare Prophet would be impressive and entertaining, but not something I'd never really heard before.

Like always, I was wrong. Elizabeth Clare Prophet has drawn upon a wide range of faiths and practices to craft her own jaw dropping style of praying... a droning, ululating, keening, and seemingly unending series of appeals to the likes of the Great Divine Director, Hercules, Cyclopea, and the Electronic Solar Rings of the Great Central Sun. I don't even know what the hell. If you too don't know and would like to hear for yourself, check out the clips on this page. "Decree" made me think of Olive Oyl and Popeye conducting an auction while on some coke binge. And you'll note that Elizabeth Clare Prophet has a bone to pick with rock music, and the artists that she singles out (Huey Lewis and the News? Men At Work? and many other puzzling targets...) suggests these recordings are from the early 80s.

So, naturally I needed to learn more about "ECP" and her church, the Church Universal and Triumphant. Of course the Internet was there for me. The official story is available at The Summit Lighthouse. FactNET has a run down of links related to the group, including tell-all pages from people who belonged to the church for 14 years and etc. Hmmm! The Freedom Of Mind entry seemed like a pretty good breakdown of the Church's history, belief and practices. Also, Sanjiv thought the "hey batter batter" style of praying was adapted from calling out prayers in Sanskrit, but couldn't find an example online to illustrate what he meant.

to subvert them by the syncopated rhythm of the fallen ones and the misuse of 4/4 time...
