I was at the office a lot last week. I had several mornings where I had to be there by 8, but then still wound up working late into the evening. Didn't seem like it should be a problem, but by Friday afternoon I was both groggy and cranky. A lot of people left the office early on Friday and I myself was told to leave around 4 - I had to go mail a letter for us, but other than that I was done. I came home and found myself doing a lot of chores, a lot of things that I had let slip lately. It dawned on me that this was the sort of routine housekeeping that I would normally do after getting home from work, but for the past several weeks I'd been working so late that by the time I got home I just 'unwound' briefly then went to bed. I guess I've never been good at balance. I just wish I had more to show for all the time spent sitting at work. We'll see.
After awhile last night I realized there was no food in the apartment at all, and that I wanted coffee, so I went out. I decided to stop by the comic book store, which turned out to be a good decision because they had volume 2 of Taiyo Matsumoto's No. 5. I didn't even know this was out yet; I guess I don't really keep up with 'manga'. I am pretty sure No. 5 is great, although I sometimes fear I'm being conned by heavy weirdness-for-it's-own-sake. I wish I could describe it smartly - it's 'manga' and certainly has some touches that remind me of that, but it's also a stew of Moebius, sprawling psychedelic lay outs, surreal figures, and a kind of scratchy urban line. Nearly every page has one or more animals wandering through it, usually something very out of context, like an octopus in a desert, or weird, such as pygmy watch-hippos. It's cool and fun and I'm not requiring it to make much sense, just going along for the ride.
I also picked up the latest issue of Fortean Times, which I'd vowed to stop buying because it's so expensive and I rarely read the whole thing, but I failed again. It turns out that it was a pretty good issue though. Then I got groceries and came home and read.
There are no plans for the weekend. I might go see Pirates of the Caribbean with Jim and Jes but I'm not sure. Hm I still feel tired.
