Apr. 8th, 2003 11:06 pmPresident Bush Designates a POW Day
"President Bush designated Wednesday as a day of national recognition for former U.S. prisoners of war and pledged to work for the safe return of Americans captured in the Iraq war."
Hmmm. This brings to mind the people we have detained indefinitely whose status I am not even sure of... they're not prisoners of war if I am not mistaken, they're (mostly) not U.S. citizens... have they been tried for anything yet? Most are in that 'Camp X-Ray'.... All right I shouldn't try and talk smart when I don't know the facts.
I did stay up and finish reading The Cobra Event last night. I really liked it. It reminded me of that strange L.A., erm, Weekly? piece about an imaginary crop-dusting of anthrax near Los Angeles. Except this was longer (of course) and had more interesting history and opinion stuck in. There was a 'thriller' element to give it a plot, and I am not sure how plausible some of the science was, but, I liked it. If the book is accurate, and it probably is, I guess I am living in the U.S.' bioresearch belt here. Could be some bug will be released soon, right in my neighborhood. Maybe something bad. Maybe something good.
Anyway, I was weak and ordered a used copy of "The Demon in the Freezer", because I really want to read it now. I will go to the library and get a card this weekend though, to help cut back on these book purchases.
