This 'spring forward' business is for the birds I tell you. I should move to that section of Indiana that doesn't observe this crap. It would solve a couple key problems.

Still fairly glued to all the war coverage. I was sad to read of Michael Kelly's death on Friday... I read his column regularly, and while I didn't always agree with him I was always impressed with his writing and his convictions. He died while taking part in something he believed in; he left behind a couple very young children. I know it's just one death among the thousands but it was one I felt a little more acutely.

Rented a couple movies yesterday for the first time in several weeks: Below, because I had heard it was ok, and Reign: the Conqueror because I do still dig that Aeon Flux style. I got bored during Below last night and went to bed... have to finish it sometime today. Haven't looked at the other yet. Geez I have to return these tonight, too.

I also picked up a copy of The Cobra Event yesterday. Just started reading a little this morning... I suppose it's 'mindporn'. The cashier at the bookstore asked me if I read the Hot Zone. I told her I had but then I didn't have much to say about it after that. She said that she thought it was more scary for being true, or something like that. I didn't think to ask if she had read this book. I see that the author has yet another scary germ book out. Looks interesting.

Oh and, while I am trying to be grown up and just read about history and such, here is the interesting 'paranormal' thing of late. The 'Mothman Prophecies'-like 'Skinwalker Ranch' in Utah. Part One and Part Two of an article about the happenings and the ranch and the ongoing investigation, also an afterword to that article. Here is the web page of NIDS, the outfit that is investigating (and now owns) the Ranch, and which may be the most interesting element of the whole story. And here are some links to articles about the ranch and the investigation. So, this all sounds very curious, but I will admit I do start rolling my eyes at some of the particulars here, as is often the case with these instances of non-specific diffuse but pervasive weirdness that (we are told) somehow magically and inherently defy scientific investigation.
