the return of the poor carpenter
Jan. 8th, 2003 11:06 pmThis morning someone brought this salvia divinorum stuff to my attention. Hrmmm. I find myself a little scared of it for some reason, but curious. That someone took the time to map out the "six levels of salvia experiences" (found here) and to have each level begin with one of the letters S-A-L-V-I-A, well that kind of devotion and attention to detail does say something for a drug.
The same person who was pondering the hippie stuff this morning went out and bought himself a robot vacuum cleaner this afternoon. I have yet to see it in operation since the battery needs to charge up for 12 hours first. Hopefully tomorrow, before he takes it home with him.
Tomorrow we are also going to try out this trivia thing at some Applebee's near here and then going down to Pennsylvania to see Adaptation.
I have been recording voice prompt stuff at work lately, which actually is fun. I have been getting compliments on my voice, and of course that goes right to my head, but really I know I am just some random amateur. I wanted to make things a little better, even for our demo stuff, so I searched around for awhile today to try and find some tips on, y'know, articulation and the more professional way to read things. Not a great deal of luck so far, altho I found plenty of people who would be more than happy to sell me their books on "voice acting", which all feature things about working with agents and making a demo tape and selling yourself and stuff, since no one wants to buy a book that only gives you technical tips and exercises and, I dunno, tricks of pronounciation and breathing or whatever.
I may check one of these books out though, not that I see this as any career outside of some brief fantasy, but I do want our demo to sound, eh, competent. This reminds me of the stuff I went through awhile back while trying to do some diagrams. The tools to hand are these inadequate open source packages, so the results were always really frustrating. But there was never a decision of whether or not we were just going to pay some pro to crank out the final product for us. So I felt like I was wasting everyone's time and money. Bah.

sayno2carbs. What gives? And I don't want to hear some story about busted computers.
