Oct. 22nd, 2002 05:41 pmSomewhat busy recently... with work, doing things with people, and sleeping. Also some reading of course. I think I need glasses again, or rather, that I need to break down and get an updated prescription and start wearing glasses again. Won't I just look the fancy lad then.
The two records that Tom Waits put out this year both have some really beautiful songs on them, I think. If I were the sort of person who made "Best of" lists for a year, I would put them both on it, but then I would never be satisfied with any such list that I made. I always get overwhelmed with details for one thing. Anyway I have been listening to those two records at work some this week and I swear sometimes I think a few of the songs are just too pretty for this world.
We keep talking about the sniper (you know the one I mean), myself and these people that are around me most days. Occasionally I feel a sick sense that we just like that something is happening in the world - that little thrill of excitement at news and events - and can't get it through our heads that people are actually being killed. Yeah, I know that people are dying all the time, I realize we all die and when we do it's not tragic it's just standard, but this sniper business pisses me off.
Lots of debate about libertarians on this one mailing list that I am on today. People talking about starting a libertarian state. Someone suggested the name "Freedonia"; I was thinking of something more along the lines of dopesmokinggunowningtaxhatingmiddleagedwhitemaletechnocratobjectivistopia.
It has cooled off quite a bit here in the last week or so, and I like that. I finally opened a local checking account last Saturday. I need to go for a walk tonight.
