After living in Chicago, I am quite devoted to what I will call "Middle Eastern" food. I lived right next to Old Jerusalem there for over a year, which had good chow, then after moving to the south loop I fortunately discovered The Olive Branch on Wells, which was Heaven itself. The best baba ganouj ever, awesome hummus, fine fine chicken shawirma, good salads, many excellent (and always fresh and ample) entrees, and especially groovy pastries from some bakery in Michigan (excellent fingers and bird's nests... mmmmm).

Thus far in NJ, I have not located a primo Middle Eastern joint to feed me. So, I was reduced to buying some grocery store hummus. Moments ago I retrieved the little tub from my refrigerator, and as I did so I noticed the writing on the lid: "America's Favorite Hummus" and I think, with no hint of irony at all, "Well, if I have to eat this grocery store stuff, at least I got America's favorite... I mean that must be pretty good."

Yyyyyeahhhhh... advertisers just love me.
