...grumble... stupid 'war on drugs'...

Yet another recent news story that I completely missed:

Comedian Tommy Chong has been sentenced to nine months in federal prison and fined $20,000 for selling bongs and other drug paraphernalia over the Internet.

I remember reading about this "Operation Pipe Dreams" bullshit awhile back. Madness!

That sucks. I was hoping he'd make a return to That 70's Show. He was way funny in that.

rant

Hm yeah he was... see I don't get the logic behind this. Just seems heavyhanded and designed to scare people (while also putting some folks in jail and fining them of course, and shutting down some online head shops). I mean yeah OK, you, I, everybody knows that 'water pipes' / bongs whatever are sold to be used with pot. But if people want to smoke pot they'll find a way. Let people sell bongs, who cares. What makes them illegal? Are you going to go after the Bic lighter people too? Eh one could go on and on about this, and attack it from smarter angles probably. I guess the bottom line is I think the whole thing is hypocritical and wrong.

Oh, I know! The 'incense' shop right outside the edge of town has a gigantic hooka for sale, right in the middle of the store. (It's bigger than I am!) If they can sell those in stores, why not online?

Yeah... altho I guess I muddied the waters with the term 'water pipe'... I am not an expert and don't know what laws have been created but I do know there are hookah-style water pipes that people use with tobacco, I used to see them in certain restaurants in Chicago. I'm guessing that either no law has been interpreted-enforced to prohibit selling those, or that the laws are written for more traditional pot bongs. Either way I am still irked!
